US election results 2012: As it happened

Barack Obama has been re-elected as US president, winning 274 electoral votes, four more than what was needed to win.

Washington: Barack Obama clinched a second term as US President, defeating his Republican challenger Mitt Romney in a tough fight that went down to the wire.

As per the latest results, Obama secured 303 votes as against 206 by Romney. Obama’s lead in the popular vote count was 50.3 per cent while that of Romney was 48.1 per cent, as per a BBC report.
