Dubai: Pakistan`s former president says the fight against al Qaeda depends on rebuilding trust between his nation and America that was damaged by questions over how Osama bin Laden could have remained hidden in a Pakistani military town.

US officials have said Pakistan has questions to answer over bin Laden`s location in a house close to an Army academy in a garrison town.

Pervez Musharraf says Pakistan should hold officials accountable for failing to track bin Laden to the residential compound in Abbottabad. And he calls the killing of bin Laden this week a good thing.

He says the battle against al Qaeda now hinges on mending relations between American and Pakistani intelligence agencies.

Musharraf was speaking on Friday to supporters in Dubai, where he has a residence.
