RICHMOND: The United States, which has not hosted the ICU road world
championships since 1986, appears set to announce a bid next week to host the 2015 edition of the event at Richmond, Virginia.

USA Cycling and Richmond mayor Dwight Jones announced on Friday they would stage a news conference next Tuesday to announce the city`s bid for a major cycling event and the upcoming launch of a Richmond 2015 website.

The announcement said Richmond was bidding to host "an international cycling event that has not been held in the United States in almost 25 years."
The ICU road worlds were last staged on US soil at Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1986, although the mountain bike worlds were staged in 2001 at Vail, Colorado.

Velonews reported on its website on Friday that Richmond will indeed announce a 2015 road worlds bid on Tuesday, with an unnamed source saying that former Tour of Ireland promoters Shadtree Sports was organizing the details.
