We should have spoken a little less: Rita Bahuguna

On controversial remarks during UP poll campaign, the party`s state chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi said We should have spoken a little less

Lucknow: With a number of Congress leaders coming under the scanner of the Election Commission for their controversial remarks during Uttar Pradesh poll campaign, the party`s state unit chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Friday said it
would have been better had a little restraint been exercised.

To a question on Congress leaders issuing maximum number of controversial statements during election meeting, Joshi told reporters here that her party`s campaigning had been "aggressive and positive" sending others on the back foot.
"We made no immediate promises which could be termed as sops to attract voters", she claimed.

Citing the example of Union Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal, she said the media had created "unnecessary hype" about his President`s rule remarks and he was let off by the EC.

"I think it was hyped more by the media than there was any serious issue involved", she said. However, when questioned on the issue repeatedly, Joshi
acknowledged that "if we had spoken a little less it would have been better".

Besides Jaiswal, Union Ministers Salman Khurshid and Beni Prasad Verma had also come under the scanner of the EC for their Muslim subquota remarks during election meeting.
