A 52 year-old Italian woman become the world`s first to undergo transplants of both her hands.
Monza: A 52-year-old woman in Italy has become the world`s first to undergo transplants of both her hands, hospital sources said.
Her hands and feet were amputated in 2007 due to a severe blood poisoning. It took six hours to complete the operation Monday night, the San Gerardo di Monza hospital said.
"The patient is in `good condition` but the prognosis will be reserved for another seven days until we know if she will gain use of the hands," it said in a statement.
The hand donor was reportedly a 58-year-old woman.
