Pebble Beach: Ai Miyazato has become Japan`s first world number one golfer after taking over at the top of the women`s game.
She replaced South Korea`s Jiyai Shin after winning her fourth LPGA Tour title in New Jersey at the weekend.
"When I started playing in the States that`s when I really started thinking about being number one," Miyazato told a website.
"That became a dream of mine, especially watching (Swede) Annika (Sorenstam) and (Mexican) Lorena (Ochoa) play, and now I am number one I still can`t believe it."
Miyazato, who turned 25 on Saturday, has also won in Thailand, Singapore and Mexico this year after claiming her maiden LPGA win in France in 2009.
