Ramjas College row: Certain sections trying to mislead young population, dissent is agreeable not disintegration, says Venkaiah Naidu

Delhi: Amid violence witnessed in Ramjas College last week, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu said on Monday that while 'dissent was agreeable, disintegration was not'.

He added, "Certain misguided sections are trying to mislead young population and create social tensions and hurt sentiments of people of India. Having a different opinion apart from majority opinion is agreeable but not disintegration. Nobody can advocate disintegration."

"How can anybody advocate aazadi for J&K. You want to make universities as labs for separatist experiments?" Naidu asked.

He further said, "ABVP is a nationalist Organisation. Other Organisations have different views let them express it. Why should outsiders go and disturb peace of campuses."

Meanwhile, on February 25, Ramjas College had ordered an enquiry to look into its students' involvement in clashes over a seminar even as it had resolved to stand by its teachers and students who organised the event.

The decision was taken at a staff council meeting three days after the college became a battleground for the members of RSS-backed ABVP and Left-affiliated AISA.

The genesis of the clash was an invite to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar on 'Culture of Protests' which was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP.
