Budgam encounter: One militant killed, Army jawan injured; gunfight continues

Srinagar: After intense gunfight, a militant was gunned down by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, one Indian Army jawan, was injured in the encounter.

The gunfight is till going on as another militant is said to be hiding in the area.

Earlier, the security forces, who are engaged in a fierce gunbattle with the militants, faced a tough time after few locals pelted stones near the encounter site in Chadoora area.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed and 17 others injured in clashes between security forces and stone-pelting protesters near the site of an anti-militancy operation.

After receiving information about presence of militants in Durbugh area of Chadoora, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the wee hours. According to police the search operation turned into a gunbattle after militants opened fire on security forces.

To thwart the stone-pelters, the security forces fired pellet guns and tear smoke shells in a bid to disperse the protesters.

Protesting youths also pelted stones at a paramilitary CRPF vehicles at Nagam village, three km away from Durbugh village.

The CRPF vehicles were on their way to augment the strength of the security forces engaged in the gunfight.
