Five terrorists shot dead in separate encounters in Kashmir

A soldier and a civilian were also wounded in two separate encounters. 

  • While four terrorists were killed in the Budgam district, one was neutralised by the security personnel in Baramulla's Sopore.
  • A teenager was also injured in the firing in Budgam.
  • Mobile Internet services snapped by the authorities in Budgam and Pulwama.

SRINAGAR: The security forces on Thursday gunned down at least five terrorists in separate encounter incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. 

While four terrorists were killed in the Budgam district, one was neutralized by the security personnel in Baramulla's Sopore.

The operations are still underway, said a report. 

In Budgam, the gunfight broke out between a joint team of Army, CRPF and Budgam police and terrorists early today. At least 2-3 Jaish-e-Mohammad militants were believed to be present at Futlipora village in Pakherpora area. 

Police said an army convoy carrying reinforcements to Futlipora village was attacked with stones by a mob in Pakherpora Chowk.

"As they closed in on the hiding militants, the security forces were fired upon triggering the encounter, which is now going on," an officer said.

A teenager was also injured in the clashes.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Futlipora in Pakherpora area, 45 kms from here, following information about presence of militants in the area, the officer added.

"Fifteen-year-old Sinar Ahmad was injured when the army resorted to aerial firing after the mob attack on the convoy. He has been shifted to a hospital in Srinagar," a police officer said.

In another development, a terrorist was killed and a soldier was left injured in an ongoing gunbattle in Sopore area of Baramulla.

The security forces launched the search operation at Sagipora village after getting a tip-off from the terrorists' hideout. 

Mobile Internet services were snapped by the authorities in Budgam and Pulwama districts on Thursday after a gunfight broke out.
