Karnataka Assembly Elections 2013: Congress rebels in the fray

Denied ticket by Congress party, dissidence leaders in Karnataka have decided to contest nonetheless for upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Bangalore: Denied ticket by the Congress party, the dissidence leaders in Karnataka have decided to contest nonetheless for upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

As per a newspaper report, the disgruntled leaders are contesting in more than a dozen seats. However, the Congress is not giving importance to these rebel candidates. Instead it is focussing on its campaigning.

Some of the prominent leaders who are in the fray as rebel candidates are sitting MLA from Bhadravathi, BK Sangamesh , former MLA from Basavanagudi, K Chandrashekar, Ravindra Srikantaiah, Sushma Gopala Reddy, PD Basanagoudar, Prema Shannappa and VK Basappa.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 20.

Four local Congress leaders have filed their papers as Independent candidates in the KGF constituency.

Former ministers, A Krishnappa, CP Yogeshwar and Vasanth Salian are contesting as JD(S), Samajwadi Party and JD(S) candidates respectively. On the other hand a local leader Syed Saifulla is contesting as JD-S candidate from Davanagere South. He was denied a ticket by the Congress party.
