Vijay needs some time in the middle and bat long if India want to make the advantage count. Rotating the strike will also be a look out for the batsmen and Chameera's second over sees just that.

OVERS 81 // RUNS 224 // WICKETS 3

Lunch time! The session has seen 28 overs being bowled and 84 runs have been scored. Both batsmen have registered fifties with Angelo Mathews is leading the way with a stroke-filled 72. Indian bowlers have been inconsistent and runs have come easily for the batsmen. The momentum has shifted in Lanka's favour and they are in control of the proceedings. India needs some breakthrough and Kohli needs to show nerve now in rotating the bowlers well. Lankans have played risk free cricket.

11:28 AM

OVERS 74 // RUNS 204 // WICKETS 3

The Indian spinners haven't been productive today at all. Often short in their line and length has seen both batsmen making merry in rotating the strike and scoring boundaries. The Sri Lankan duo have taken the score past 200 and and are nearing their 100-run partnership. The session has belonged to Lanka and Kohli needs somebody who could weave a magic to break this partnership. Mathews has looked as the more aggressive player. India need a wicket before lunch.

11:16 AM

OVERS 71// RUNS 190 //WICKETS 3

The Indian bowlers haven't managed to get a single maiden over so far today, It shows the Sri Lankan duo have managed to keep the bowlers at bay. Mathews has brought up his fifty and needs 51 more  to complete 2000 runs in Tests as a skipper. The Lankans are taking their time and have looked settled in the middle. Mishra and Ashwin is bowling together and it has been pretty easy for both batsmen to nudge the ball around.

10:18 AM

OVERS 64// RUNS 176// WICKETS 3

Thirimanne and Mathews are slowly getting the scorecard ticking. Ishant, Binny and Umesh were all tried and captain Kolhi is back to his spin duo for creating something. The batsmen have brought up their fifty-run partnership too. Mishra has looked a bit lively but needs to create chances.

10:14 AM

OVERS 56// RUNS 152// WICKETS 3

India need quick wickets and the pitch looks a good surface to bat on. The ball is coming nicely on to the bat and the Sri Lankan duo of Thirimanne and Mathews are slowly going well with the proceedings so far. Ishant drew an edge of Thirimanne in the first over of the day but that fell short of the first slip. In the next over Binny was smacked for two boundaries by Mathews. Chosen as the fifth bowler Binny so far hasn't impressed so far.

Day 2 Roundup

Colombo: Retiring legend Kumar Sangakkara failed to get a big knock in his swansong Test appearance but Sri Lanka overcame an early jolt to reach 140/3 after dismissing India for 393 in the first innings of the second cricket Test here.

Resuming at the overnight score of 319/6, India were bowled out shortly after the lunch break and the hosts treaded

cautiously to keep the match on an even keel at the end of the second day's play.

Opener Kaushal Silva (51 off 117 balls) played a watchful innings to ensure that the early loss of fellow opener Dimuth Karunaratne did not trigger atop-order collapse.

His dismissal towards the fag end of the day, however, put the side slightly on the backfoot given that the home team is still 253 runs behind.

Sangakkara was given a guard of honour by the Indians as he walked in to bat when the hosts lost their first wicket with just one run on the board.

However, it did not quite turn out to be a fairytale ending for the veteran batsman, who was dismissed by off- spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 32 after facing 87 deliveries.

After Sangakkara's departure, Lahiru Thirimanne (28 batting) and Silva added 39 runs for the third wicket before India took the slight edge by snaring the latter.

When stumps were drawn for the day, Thirimanne and skipper Angelo Mathews (19) were holding fort for the Lankans.

Earlier, resuming at the overnight score, India were bowled three overs after lunch as Rangana Herath took 4/81.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha, who had scored a 60 in the first Test, played a 56-run knock to take India past the 350 figure.

The Indians scored at a slow pace in the morning session as Saha shepherded the lower order to avoid a below-par total in the first innings of this match.

The visiting side could pull off a mere 67 runs in this first session of play in 23.4 overs.
