India vs South Africa, 4th ODI: As it happened...
After Virat Kolhi's hundred, Indian bowlers set-up a 35-run win over the South Africans to level the series 2-2. Proteas skipper AB de Villiers played a gem of innings, but his ton was not enough against an inspired Indian bowlers. The fifth and series decider ODI will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 25.

Indian cricket team celebrates the wicket of South Africa's Hashim Amla in Chennai New Delhi: After Virat Kolhi's hundred, Indian bowlers set-up a 35-run win over the South Africans to level the series 2-2. Mohit Sharma on in the final over of the match. Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir guarded their wickets with utmost care, while Indians celebrated a deserving win. Four runs from the over. Mohit's figures: 10-0-48-1.
India won the match by 35 runs to level the series 2-2. The deciding fifth ODI will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 25.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar into his tenth over. Three runs conceded. His figures: 10-0-68-3. He leaked plenty of runs, but took those crucial wickets towards the end to assure India the win, and stay alive in the series. South Africa need 40 runs from 6 balls.

Mohit Sharma into the attack, and Kagiso Rabada hit the first ball for a four. He sure can bat. Nice looking cover drive. Then, Rahane missed a run-out chance, with his throw from the backward point missing the stumps. Six runs from the over.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar double-strike hastened India's winning surge in Chennai. He first removed Aaron Phangiso off the third delivery, with Axar Patel completing the catch at short third man.

Amit Mishra returned, and conceded seven runs. With that Mishra also completed his spell, for figures of 10-1-55-1. South Africa need 54 runs from 24 deliveries.

Bhuvnewshar Kumar, who has had a poor spell so far conceding 50 runs in seven overs, returned for the 45th over. And the over started with a two, with a run-out claim referring to the third umpire. It was followed by another couple.
Then, out of the blue, AB de Villiers walked back. Bhuvi produced a slower bouncer, getting faintest of top-edge nick with MS Dhoni taking a low catch behind the stumps.

Despite the physical strain, AB de Villiers has changed the gear. Harbhajan Singh did enough too cut a good shot at the covers, restricting it to a couple.
Axar Patel also completed his 10-overs spell with a five-run final over. South Africa need another 72 runs from 36 balls, almost 12 an over.

AB de Villiers reached his second hundred of the series with a huge six over the long-on boundary. It's his 22nd ODI ton, and fifth against India.

Harbhajan into his last over. Four singles from the first five deliveries, before AB de Villiers lofted the final delivery into the orbit. Huge six. 10 runs.
South Africa need 86 more runs from 48 balls.

Amit Mishra into the attack, and Aaron Phangiso took a single, then a single to AB de Villiers. Phangiso wasted two deliveries, before taking another single. A wild turn in the last delivery, and a single for AB, keeping the strike. Four runs from the over. South African need another 96 runs from 54 balls.

A cramping AB de Villiers is keeping the South African hopes. He ran two twos off the first two deliveries of Harbhajan Singh's first two deliveries. After a leg bye, Phangiso took a single. Then, AB hit a four straight down the ground to help SOuth Africa reach 200. A dot to end the over. 10 runs from the over.

Finally, India managed to effect a run-out, thanks to a risky direct throw from Ajinkya Rahane. Mohit returned to the attack, and Morris tried to steal a single following a LBW shout. Then, Rahane hit bulls eye with a direct throw at non-striker's end. AB de Villiers, who needed to have majority of the strikes, rushed for the non-existent single, ending the 41-run partnership.

Then, the very next delivery, AB de Villiers survived a lofted shot with the Indian fielder missing the flight of the ball at backward point. In the fifth delivery, AB got a hit on his helmet with a bouncer, resulting in a single. He kept the strike with another single.

Harbhajan Singh into his eighth over. He managed to keep the South African quite, conceding only five runs. South Africa need another 115 runs from 72 balls.

Axar Patel in the attack.AB de Villiers got a single off the third delivery, then Chris Morris played a good reverse sweep for his first four. Six runs from the over.

Chris Morris got off the strike with a sweep off the thirs delivery. Then, AB de Villiers showcased his class, playing a reverse sweep to find his ninth four through the midwicket area.
Next delivery, Harbhajan almost got hit wicket, but the ball fell short of the fielder at mid-off. Six runs from the over. South Africa need 126 more runs at exactly nine an over.

MS Dhoni persisted with Bhuvneshwar. No signs of Suresh Raina, despite the tell-tale signs of spinners doing the tricks.
AB de Villiers took a single off the first delivery, exposing Chris Morris. But Morris managed to fend off the remaining deliveries, including a wayward shot which almost cost his wicket. A single, and to the delight of Dhoni, Morris kept the strike.

And amidst the pile of wickets, AB de Villiers is taking on the Indians. Started the 34th over with back-to-back fours off Amit Mishra, either side of the pitch.
But, Mishra returned strong, tossing up, and beating the master batsman in the flight, twice. Nine runs from the over.

Then, AB de Villiers reached his fifty with two fours off the first three balls from Bhuvnewshar Kumar's sixth over. The Proteas skipper hit another four in the next delivery. 13 runs from the over. They need 143 more runs from 17 overs.

Farhaan Behardien survived a thick edged, caught behind with umpire S Ravi ignoring India's claim. Bowler Amit Mishra and MS Dhoni were already celebrating, but had to content with a wry smile from the umpire.
Then, in the fifth delivery, Ravi raised his finger to a loud LBW shout from the Indians. Behardien shook his head, not happy.

India have had their chances in the last couple of overs, but could only watched South African batsmen surviving those close chances. Mohit Sharma started his seventh over with length ball, which Farhaan Behardien played towards the backward point, and Ajinkya Rahane missed his throw to effect the run out. Three runs from the over and Proteas required 156 runs from 19 overs.

Amit Mishra continued for his fifth over. And off the first delivery, South Africa survived a close run-out call, with AB de Villiers and Farhaan Behardien making a mess of a possible single. de Villiers, then, took a single in the third delivery. Then, in the fifth delivery, Behardien lofted a skier, and amidst calls of 'catch it', Bhuvneswhar Singh failed to read the flight. Two runs for South Africa, for the risk. A single to complete the 4-run over.
In between, the two Proteas batsmen also completed their fifty-run partnership.

Mohit Sharma kept his it simple and quite. Conceded only a single to keep the pressure from his end. AB de Villiers took three deliveries to take a single, then Farhaan Behardien defended the remaining three deliveries for nothing.
Over 28 | Score 136/4 (de Villiers 40; Behardien 17)
For the first time today, Amit Mishra has bowled a good over, conceding only two runs. He managed to keep AB de Villiers quite. South Africa need another 164 runs from 22 overs.
Over 27 | Score 134/4 (de Villiers 39; Behardien 16)
Mohit Sharma returned for his fifth over. Three runs off the first four deliveries - a double and a single off the second and fourth deliveries respectively - then a single off the final. Four runs from the over.
And AB de Villiers taking most of the strikes, Indian bowlers have in the last four.five overs failed to dictate the terms.

Another six-run over with AB de Villiers taking on Axar Patel. The Proteas skipper also survived a couple of close chances, first MS Dhoni missing a stumping chance, then a miss hit falling short of fielder at mid-off.
de Villiers hit the second ball of the over for a four, coming down the over, through the midwicket. And there were two singles too.

And another good, productive over for South Africa. Six runs from Axar Patel's eighth over, thanks to a four off the final delivery. de Villiers swept the straighter to the backward square leg boundary.

It seemed South African skipper AB de Villiers has got a hang of the turn and bounce in Chennai. He started Amit Mishra's second over with a well judged sweep for a four over the midwicket. Then he, along with Behardien milked single, to make it a nine-run over.

Another good over from Axar Patel. Leaked only two runs, all singles, one each to Behardien and de Villiers.

MS Dhoni introduced another spinner in Amit Mishra. Four runs from his first over. For South Africa, AB de Villiers is holding the fort, playing some exquisite late cuts and defending good deliveries.
Proteas need another 193 runs from 28 overs.
Over 21 | Score 103/4 (de Villiers 15; Behardien 9)
Another good over for South Africa. Eight runs from the over, to bring up their 100. Farhaan Behardien took a single off the first delivery, then AB de Villiers played out three dots before getting a three off a thick edge. Then, he got benefited of yet another edge, which flew for a four behind the slip cordon. Unlucky Axar Patel.

Finally, a decent over for the batting side, taking three singles off the first three deliveries, then making it a five-run over with two singles off the two final deliveries.
Harbhajan Singh completed six overs, taking two wickets, conceding 20 runs.

Indian spinners just raced through the overs and South Africa's asking rate increased with with every passing spell.
Axar Patel completed his five overs, conceding only two runs in the fifth over. new man Farhaan Behardien played out four balls for a single, after AB de Villiers took a single off the first ball.
Proteas need another 210 runs from 31 overs.

Harbhajan again. The experience bowler removed David Miller, who just hit the spinner for a four to relief the pressure. Bhaji kept the line straight and it hit Miller on the front foot and the umpire has no hesitation raising the finger.

Another beautiful over from Axar Patel. Both Ab de Villiers and David Miller are at the mercy of Indian slow bowlers, slips in position. And close fielders all cocked-up.

Harbhajan Singh tighten the screws after the fall of Faf du Plessis. Four runs from the over. South Africa need another 217 runs from 34 overs. And Indian appealed for everything.

Dhoni persisted with spin and it paid rich dividends. Slow left arm spinner removed Faf du Plessis, caught behind, with Indian team celebrating in unison. Umpire S Ravi lifted his finger straight away, even as Faf was reluctant. No RDS in India.

Harbhajan Singh continued his brilliant spell. The off-break bowler conceded only two runs in his third over. His spell so far: 3-0-6-1.
In the fifth ball, AbB de Villiers slammed a straight drive which hit Faf du Plessis on the right elbow. And the South African batsman in the non-striker's end required a lengthy medical attention. Bhaji ended the over, conceding a single.

Axar Patel produced yet another brilliant over, conceding only three runs. South Africa need another 227 runs with 8 wickets in hand.

It was going well for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, until the final delivery. He had conceded only a single, off the fourth delivery to du Plessis, then de Kock connected the sixth ball for a six over the square-leg boundary. Seven runs.

Faf du Plessis got a lucky boundary behind the wicket-keeper off a thick edge. He took a single off the next delivery, before de Kock hit a sumptuous cut on the back foot for his sixth boundary.
Quinton de Kock, who has a special liking of Indian attack, is playing a good innings.

Another good over for India, only two runs from it as Bhuvnewshar Kumar managed to keep newly arrived du Plessis quite. A wide and a single off the final delivery.
South Africa need another 257 runs with 9 wickets in hand. Bhuvi, in between, received a warning from the umpire for running into the danger area.

Mohit Sharma removed dangerous Hashim Amla off the first delivery of the sixth over. The ball arrived little late for the Proteas batsman and he ended up offering comfortable catch at midwicket, where Shikhar Dhawan jumped a bit to complete the sending off.

Poor, poor start the over for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Back-to-back fours to start, including an overstepping no-ball, resulting in a free-hit, which resulted in two runs. Quinton de Kock was at his best.
After conceding 10 runs off the first two legal deliveries, Bhuvi, thanks to some good fielding, managed to end the over relatively well. 14 runs from the over.

And Mohit Sharma also responded with a brilliant over. Leaked only two runs. South Africa, after four overs, need another 279 runs with 10 wickets in hand.

A good over for India with Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceding only three runs, all singles. In between, there was also a little mixed-up between the two Proteas openers in the third ball. But India failed to capitalise from it.
Virat Kohli, who scored a brilliant hundred, failed to take field. He was limping towards the end of his innings.

Mohit Sharma shared the new ball with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and he alse went for some good runs.
Hashim Amla started with a single off the first delivery, then de Kock took a double. After two dot balls, the left-handed opener took a single off a overstepping no-ball. Off the free-hit, he hit his second boundary, a cracking whip through the covers. A dot to finish the 8-run over.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar started the proceedings for India. He conceded eight runs in the first over, with South African opener Quinton de Kock hitting a four off the fourth delivery -- through the cover point. There were two wides and a double too.

Dale Steyn produced a near perfect last over to dismiss to restrict India under 300. MS Dhoni, once again, failed to capitalise on a good start and returned making only 15. He was caught at midwicket by AB de Villiers off the penultimate delivery.

Then, clean-bowled Harbhajan Singh, even though Rabada's lending leg seemed to have missed the line. Third umpire adjudged the delivery legal.

On the hat-trick ball, Axar Patel slashed his bat to take a double. Dhoni took a single off the last delivery to keep the strike. Five runs from the over.

India lost steam towards the end. Dale Steyn produced a superb over to followed up Rabada's four-run over. Dhoni and Kolhi settled with singles, despite all their swings and heaves. Five singles off five balls. Then a dot ball to end the over.

Kagiso Rabada, expectedly, returned. He toyed with Indian skipper so far in the series. Dhoni started with a single, followed another single by Kohli. Four runs from the young pace bowler. Impressive.
Over 46 | Score 281/4 (Kohli 135; Dhoni 6)
A limping Virat Kohli has taken into the Imran Tahir. After blocking the first delivery, the Indian No.3 lofted the spinner out of the park. Kohli then trickled down the other end for a single.
MS Dhoni missed a full toss, settling for a single, off the fifth delivery. Then a no-ball, resulting in a free-hit. Kolhi failed to capitalised on it, taking a single only. 11 runs from the over.
Over 45 | Score 270/4 (Kohli 127; Dhoni 4)
Good over for South Africa with Dale Steyn in operation. Nine runs, including a wide, and the wicket of Suresh Raina.
Finding hard to find the boundary against South Africa's premier bowler, the Indian duo resorted to running. Five runs. Then, off the penultimate delivery, Rains offered a simple catch at midwicket, where AB de Villiers completed the catch.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni arrived, and dispatched the first ball he faced for a four through the fine leg area for his four. And Kohli is limping.

AB de Villiers dropped Suresh Raina off Imran Tahir's bolwing. A googly from the leg break bowler meant Raina was only lofting the ball without much elevation. Proteas skipper called his take, and dropped at mid-off. In between, India have ran two runs. That happened in the second delivery of the over.
Good over, nonetheless, for the visitors as it leaked only six runs.
Raina also completed his fifty with a single with a single off the last delivery, his 36th in ODIs. His scoring sequence in the series is: 3, 0, 0 and 50*. Some time coming.

Virat Kohli has controlled the Indian innings like old times, and in the process, helped other batsmen around him play their bits.
Dale Steyn, in his seventh over, faced an utmost task of restricting the scoring rate which in the last five overs has climbed over at an rate of eight. He started well with a dot and a single, before Raina smashed a straight drive with horizontal bat for a four. Seven runs from the over. On par.

AB de Villiers finally brought in his strike bowler Imran Tahir, and the leg break spinner started with control, until, Virat Kohli launched the fourth delivery over the long off boundary for his fourth six today. The over resulted in nine runs as India continued to pile runs in the slog overs.

Chris Morris returned for his ninth over. And a relatively quite one, considering how the Indian duo in the centre have increased the scoring rate in the last couple of overs.
Raina started with a well run three, thanks to a Hashim Amla wayward throw. Five singles followed to make it a eight-run over. And with that Virat and Raina stitched a 100-run partnership in 89 deliveries. Good show from two of India's most established batsmen.

AB de Villiers persisted with Phangiso, the spinner. Raina defended the first delivery, then took a single. Kolhi responded with his single, before another Raina single. After that, the Kohli played a delicate late cut which raced through the third man area for his fifth four. He made it back-to-back fours with a straight hit. 11 runs from the over.

Over 39 | Score 218 (Kohli 103; Raina 31)
Another busy over in Chennai. Chris Morris, who is playing his first match of the ODI series, returned for his seventh over. Raina started with a double, then, produced a superb straight drive for his second four of the innings.
Two more singles, and India added another eight runs to the total.
Over 38 | Score (Kohli 102; Raina 25)
What was way to bring up his 23rd ODI hundred, and the first of the series. Aaron Phangiso managed a dot ball to start his eighth over, but the Kolhi lofted the second one, coming down the wicket, over the long on fielder, who tried to pluck jumping.

Morris brought back to bowl his fifth over. Kohli worked the first ball towards mid-off and sprinted for a single which brings his half-century off 51 balls. Superb knock once again from India's most consistent batsman over the years. The fourth ball was wayward, down the leg side and Rahane worked it fine past fine leg for a boundary. The next ball had width on the off side and Rahane worked it past third man for another boundary.

This will be a crucial partnership for India. Young Rabada has so far bowled his heart out and gifted him a big wicket!
