Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday stunned the world by defeating his heavily favoured Democrat rival Hillary Clinton in the closely contested race for the White House, ending eight years of Democratic rule.

Brushing aside fears that his victory will further divide the US, President-elect Donald Trump said in his victory speech that he will be the leader "for all Americans".
