Maharashtra: MSRTC to deduct 36-day salary of employees who went on strike

MUMBAI: Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation or MSRTC has decided to deduct 36-day salary of employees who went on strike during Diwali. The salary will be deducted over a period six months.

"Following the high court's order which declared the strike as illegal, an action has been initiated and the legal section has issued a circular in accordance with the law to deduct 36 days' salary of the staff who resorted to agitation and put the corporation and lakhs of passengers in trouble," said a senior MSRTC official.

The corporation's decision came nearly 10 days after MSRTC employees called off their strike.

A day before Diwali, more than one lakh MSRTC employees went on strike demanding a salary hike of 25 per cent and implementation of 7th Pay Commission. 

The strike, which lasted for four days, was termed "illegal" by the Bombay High Court. The court also directed the employees on strike to resume work immediately.

Apart from the four days of the strike, the employees will not be paid for another 36 days.

For the next six months, employees will receive salary for just 24 days.

The action was being taken as per the industrial dispute laws, and the high court's order declaring the strike as illegal mandates the MSRTC to take the action, the official said.
