A 30-year-old police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the government quarters here.

Nashik: A 30-year-old police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the government quarters here, officials said on Tuesday.

The cop identified as Rakesh Bapu Sonawane took the extreme step yesterday at his residence near the police headquarters here last evening, a police official from Sarkarwada police station said.

Sonawane was posted at Byculla police station in Mumbai and had come here on leave, the official said.

The policeman ended his life by hanging himself from a wooden log, when his parents were not at home. The reason behind the suicide is still unclear.

Police have registered a case of accidental death and investigation is underway, the official added.
