New Delhi: Chinese handset maker Xiaomi on Wednesday informed that it sold 90,000 units of its brand new device, the Redmi 3S Prime during its first open sale on Tuesday (August 9).

Launched in India on August 3, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime, priced at Rs 8,999 only, was exclusively available on Flipkart and Mi.com.

"For the first sale that we did yesterday, we wanted to bring the highest possible quantity and we brought 90,000 units. Everything was added to cart in a few minutes and it took two-and-a-half hours to ship out everything," Xiaomi India head Manu Jain said.

Unlike its previous smartphones, the Redmi 3S Prime was put on open sale and not flash sale.

Explaining the reason behind open sale, Jain said the company significantly higher volumes than it ever did.

In the open sales, Xiaomi would put up only about a maximum of 60,000 devices for sale. However, for the open sale, the company had put up 90,000 Redmi S3 Prime smartphones which were sold out in a matter of just eight minutes.

Xiaomi will have another open sale on August 17 for Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime with similar number of units.

The Redmi 3S Prime was launched along with the Redmi 3S which is priced at Rs 6,999.
