Belgaum, Jan 21: Already grappling with a boundary dispute with Maharashtra, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa Wednesday sought the Centre's immediate intervention to help solve the border dispute with Andhra Pradesh as the controversy over mining activity in those areas continued to rage in the state.
Opposition parties Congress and JD-S have alleged some Andhra Pradesh-based companies are engaged in mining activities on encroached border areas of Karnataka.
Replying to a debate in the Legislative Council, Yeddyurappa said Karnataka government has already written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minsiter Y S R Reddy seeking a joint
survey and demarcation.
He said there was a delay in undertaking joint survey and the Centre must intervene and the task should be carried out under the supervision of the Union Government. "They (the
Centre) have to intervene", he said.
On January 16 this year, Karnataka wrote to the Survey of India stating that there was an inter-state boundary dispute between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in the border of Bellary taluk of Bellary district of Karnataka and Rayadurga taluk of Andhra Prdesh's Ananthpur district.
