Cairo: While women in several male-dominated Muslim states live in deplorable conditions, their position is slightly different when it comes to Egypt.

Figures obtained from the Family Law Court in Egypt has revealed that nearly 28% of the Egyptian women beat their husbands.

According to a report in India Today, which quoted Sada El Balad News, divorce cases are on rise in Egypt where nearly 66% couples have filed for separation or annulment.

Most of the Egyptian males suffer violence at the hands of their wives and they have no other option but to file lawsuits against their disobedience.

Making things worse for them is the fact that women are legally immune in Egypt.

The report also states that nearly 6,000 lawsuits have been filed so far in the Islamic country.

The report further claimed that women use a range of tools like - belts, pins, knives, utensils etc – to beat or confront their husbands.

And, if this is not enough, they even sedate their husbands with sleeping pills to make them powerless while they batter them.

Ironically, Egyptian women are now no. 1 in world in assaulting their spouses.

Egyptian women are closely followed by their counterparts in the United States where 23% American women are accused of assaulting their husbands.

The United Kingdom comes third with 17% followed by India where 11% women beat their husbands.

Interestingly, a 2013 report by Amnesty International on Egypt presented a totally different picture and stated that nearly 47% women experienced domestic violence and 37% conceded that men justified beating their spouses.
