Washington: Ivanka Trump finally broke silence on on the 2005 tape in which Donald trump made sexually aggressive remarks about women, and said that the comments were "clearly inappropriate and offensive."

"My father's comments were clearly inappropriate and offensive and I'm glad that he acknowledged this fact with an immediate apology to my family and the American people," CNN quoted Trump's eldest daughter as saying in a statement.

She added that her "greatest comfort" is that she knows her father while "most of the people who write about him don't". This gives her the ability to "shrug off" reports she knows are wrong.

Ivanka also said that media often refers to her as Trump's 'surrogate wife' which was a "deeply offensive" thing to say.

Her statement comes the same day as Melania Trump, who defended her husband and called those accusations "lies" and that Trump was "egged on" into "boy talk".

She also said she never heard her husband use that kind of language before.

The tape in which Trump bragged about sexually aggressive behaviour toward women was published by The Washington Post and NBC on October 8. Several women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct since then.
