Adilabad: In yet another spine chilling retaliation by mafia, a government official was killed, on Thursday, in line of duty, while he was trying to stop the sandalwood smuggling in Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, Forest Officer P Satyanarayana was attacked by goons here for trying to stop illegal smuggling of sandalwood trees.

Initial reports suggest that Satyanarayana along with three villagers had gone to the forest to stop the smuggling of sandalwood trees. The situation took an ugly turn at the spot where they were outnumbered by the goons.

Satyanarayan and the villagers were attacked by sticks. The villagers are said to be seriously injured.

Meanwhile, the police has registered a case in the incident, but is yet to name anyone.

Two months ago in January additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane was burnt alive allegedly by persons associated with the oil mafia near Sagar Dhaba at Manmad in Nashik district in broad daylight.
