Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Police on Tuesday announced a slew of measures to facilitate the return of people from the Northeast who have left the city and instill confidence in them about their safety.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao held a meeting with top officials of Assam, who arrived here to discuss ways to stem the exodus of North-easterners from the city in wake of rumours about possible attacks on them.

At the meeting, it was decided to form `confidence building committees`, whose members will visit localities under Cyberabad Police

Commissionerate jurisdiction where a large number of people from Assam and other states of the region, including IT professionals and students, reside.

The meet was attended by a Principal Secretary-level officer from Assam Bhasker, Assam DIG Vijay Kumar Ramisetty, North-East Forum Secretary Paothang Haokip, Assam Association President S K Modi and DCP (Madhapur) T Yogananad and ACP K Golverdhan Reddy of Cyberabad Police.

After a lengthy deliberation, it was decided to form confidence building committees which would make an appeal to people who have left for their native places to come back and pursue their jobs and studies without any fear, Rao said.

These committees, consisting of local residents, public representatives, prominent leaders from Hindu and Muslim communities and representatives of North-east groups here would be constituted in IT sector, security agencies, student fraternity, hospitality, construction, banking and nursing segments, he said.

These committees would also be in touch with Railway authorities.

Rao said safety and security of North-east people is being ensured and patrolling is continuing in areas inhabited by them.
