Hyderabad: Congress leaders on Friday met Andhra
Pradesh Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and requested her
to take all possible steps to protect the people of
Andhra-Rayalaseema regions in the wake of increased incidents
of violence perpetrated allegedly by Telangana supporters.

The ruling party MLAs and MLCs, led by Government Whip S
Sailjanath, referred to a series of incidents beginning with
the attack on teachers at Osmania University, assault on
candidates appearing for Group-I exam and the latest violence
in the Andhra Pradesh High Court by Telangana lawyers.

They alleged some elements were fomenting trouble to
blackmail the Srikrishna Committee (looking into statehood
demand) and also create a sense of insecurity among people of
Andhra-Rayalaseema residing in Hyderabad and other parts of
Telangana.

"When there is no security even to a Judge of the High
Court, where is the guarantee of protection for common
people," the lawmakers lamented.

They demanded stern action against the perpetrators of
violence and adequate steps to protect people`s lives.

"The Home Minister promised to take action as per law and
ensure safety for people of Andhra-Rayalaseema regions,"
Sailjanath told reporters after meeting Sabita Reddy.
