Disclosing the details, Narsipatnam excise station inspector Abbul Kaleem told reporters that in the first case, they seized about 70 kg of ganja worth Rs 20 lakh and arrested two inter-state drug smugglers Manmadhan (30) and Nagaraju (28), both Tamil Nadu natives, while they were making arrangements to ferry the contraband from Vadipa village under Rolugunta mandal in the district to Tuni railway station in East Godavari district, today morning, when they were caught.
He said that they had procured the contraband from various parts of Visakhapatnam agency area and had it packed in gunny bags.
On a tip-off, Kaleem and his team raided the spot on a tip-off and the arrested smugglers were produced before court, which sent them to remand.
In another case, officials seized around 50 kg of ganja and a Bajaj Pulsar motorbike, worth about Rs 10 lakh near Nelimetta village under Narsipatnam rural police station limits in the district.
However, the smuggler fled the spot after he observed the excise team`s arrival.
Kaleem said that the case is being investigated to nab the accused, based on the bike registration number.
