AP HC CJ for dispute resolution in Lok Adalat
Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur appealed to people to extensively use the Lok Adalats.
Guntur: Underlining the advantages of
resolving disputes through Lok Adalats, Andhra Pradesh High
Court Chief Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur on Saturday appealed to
people to extensively use the alternate system and avoid
otherwise inevitable acrimony implied in regular litigation.
"There is no winner or loser before the Lok Adalats
because both sides agree to settle (disputes)", Lokur said at
the conclusion of four-day mega Lok Adalat here.
Observing that resolution of issues through Lok
Adalats is inexpensive, speedy and without bitterness, he said
"the family disputes and labour disputes can also be resolved
in the Lok Adalats".
Justice V Eswarayya of the Andhra Pradesh High Court
expressed concern over pending cases on the occasion.
"The number of cases in AP High Court escalated from
11,000 in 1970 to 1,35,000 in 1999 and 2 lakh in 2011 till
date. Alternative resolution of disputes before Lok Adalats is
the only remedy," he said.
Andhra Pradesh High Court Legal Cell secretary S Mohan
Rao said 110 insurance cases from Guntur district, pending
before the court, had been settled in the mega Lok Adalat, and
the concerned insurance companies have agreed to pay
compensation totalling Rs 180 lakh.
