Hyderabad: Six officials of Excise and
Prohibition, including an Excise Superintendent, were today
suspended in connection with the hooch tragedy in East
Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh which has so far claimed
13 lives.
The toll rose to 13 after one more person died this
morning in the government hospital at Kakinada while over 200
persons who consumed illicit liquor were hospitalised.

Samariya after visiting the district told PTI over phone that
six officials including Amalapuram Excise Superintendent
Madhusudan Rao were suspended on charges of negligence of
duty.
Meanwhile, East Godavari district superintendent of
police Y Nagi Reddy said as many as 254 villagers were
admitted at Kakinada General Hospital, adding the condition of
11 was serious.
"As a precautionary measure we got admitted the villagers
of Rachapalem, Palagummi, Gangalakurru and Agraharam villages
in Amalapuram and Ambajipeta mandals, who had consumed the
liquor during the last 3-4 days," he said.
A rowdy-sheeter P Ramakrishna, was taken into custody for
allegedly mixing methanol and other substances in liquor that
were sold in some belt shops.
