Vijayawada; Andhra Pradesh Minister for Secondary Education K Pardhasaradhi on Thursday said that 1.5 lakh hectares of ready to harvest paddy crop in Krishna district has been damaged due to three consecutive cyclones - Phailin, Helen and Lehar.
Farmers would be paid Rs 4,500 per every damaged acre as compensation by the AP state government, he told reporters on the sidelines of his visit to a relief camp at Machilipatnam.
The minister said that government would also provide seeds for a second crop at subsidised prices.
The district administration set up 34 relief camps and shifted about 7,000 people from low lying and coastal villages as a precautionary measure anticipating Cyclone Leher which crossed the land today noon without causing any major damage.
The minister lauded efforts of the administration for taking prompt action and providing amenities to relief camps.
