Hyderabad: BJP today criticised the excise
policy of the Andhra Pradesh government and claimed that
liberal liquor sale has made about "two crore people habitual
drinkers".

"Instead of providing a good administration, the policy
of the Congress government seems to be providing liquor at the
doorstep of common man," state BJP official spokesperson V
Srinivas Raju told reporters here.

Consumption of liquor on a large scale by youths was
leading to increase in the crime rate including rape incidents
in the state, Raju said.

He emphasised on the need to set up a committee under an
IAS officer to propagate about evils of liquor consumption.

Alleging that the state government was totally dependent
on liquor sales for its revenue, the BJP leader said 10 per
cent of revenue of the Excise department should be alloted for
the campaign committee.
