Hyderabad: The state unit of BJP on Monday demanded that the Central government sanction a Rs 10,000 crore package to help farmers hit by drought.

The situation in the state was deteriorating with the number of 'mandals' affected by drought increasing from 400 to 709 as per the government data, BJP's state President G Kishan Reddy told reporters here.

Kiran Kumar Reddy's government was merely declaring mandals as drought-hit, but has not undertake any relief measures for the affected farmers, Reddy charged.

He demanded that the Chief Minister lead an all-party delegation to Delhi to apprise the UPA government about the prevailing drought situation in the state and seek package of Rs 10,000 crore to provide help to farmers who lost their crops.
