Vijayawada: Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru, on Sunday expressed displeasure about lawyers` tendency to boycott courts during agitations, saying that it could damage the image of the institution of law.
The people may lose the confidence in the institution due to such boycotts, he said.
The Chief Justice was speaking after inaugurating the renovated building of Vijayawada Bar Association today.
He questioned the rationale behind Telangana region`s lawyers` boycott of the courts, saying that courts had not passed any order on the issue of formation of separate state.
Reminiscing about his days in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Justice said the lawyers there took part in agitations, but never boycotted the courts.
Nothing would come of such boycotts, except causing hardship to clients, he said.
The Chief Justice also announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh to the Vijayawada Bar Association for improving infrastructure.
Speaking at the same function, senior advocate K Rama Mohan Rao appealed to the Chief Justice to use his good offices to get a High Court bench somewhere in Vijayawada-Guntur stretch, for the convenience of people of coastal Andhra.
