Hyderabad: Congress could have won more
seats in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council polls had
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and the state party
leadership coordinated better with the workers, Textiles
Minister P Shankar Rao said on Thursday.
"Had Kiran Kumar Reddy coordinated and took the
cooperation of all, we would have won six seats as expected
(in the polls to Local Authorities` Constituencies)," Shankar
Rao, known for his cheeky remarks, told reporters here.
The party achieved good results in the past when
coordination among party leaders was censured by the likes of
Ghulam Nabi Azad and Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, he said.
The ruling Congress hoped to win at least six of the
nine LACs, where polls were held. However, former MP Y S Jagan
Mohan Reddy`s group gave a jolt to the Congress by bagging
three seats though with slender margins. Members of local
bodies are the voters in LACs.
The results exposed the internal troubles in ruling
Congress. TDP`s M Govinda Reddy won in Anantapur over his
Congress rival as the supporters of senior party MLA J C
Diwakar Reddy allegedly voted for the TDP nominee.
Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, who hails from
Anantapur district and is a rival of Diwakar Reddy, alleged
the latter had worked against the party nominee as he was not
made a minister.
The Chief Minister had blamed "money power" and
"internal differences" for the Congress` poor show in the
elections.
State Congress President D Srinivas said the party
would take corrective measures after obtaining detailed
reports from district units.
