Srikakulam: Rising water levels triggered by heavy rains has caused floods in Andhra Pradesh rendering nearly 300 people stranded, reports said on Monday.

State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had on Sunday directed Ministers and officials to take up prompt rescue and relief measures wherever necessary.

Gaurav Uppal, the District Magistrate of Srikakulam district that is badly hit, visited some of the flood-affected areas along with his team to monitor the situation.

He also spoke to the affected residents to understand the state of affairs. Uppal said incessant rainfall in neighbouring Odisha on Saturday caused water levels to rise in the Vamsadhara River. He said all the concerned authorities are working together to deal with the crisis.
