Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan`s intervention to get
the state Assembly re-convened for taking up a no-confidence
motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
As the new Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka
adjourned the House sine die soon after the process of
election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker was completed this
afternoon, a furious TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu led all his
party MLAs to the Governor to lodge a protest over the
former`s "undemocratic act".
"As the principal Opposition, we have every right to move
a no-confidence motion against the government which lost the
people`s confidence. The government particularly lost the
confidence of crisis-stricken farmers. Hence we gave a notice
for moving the no-trust motion," Chandrababu told the
Governor.
The TDP Chief said the party had given a notice in the
Assembly for no-confidence motion in accordance with the
rules. "But in a most undemocratic manner, the Deputy Speaker
adjourned the House sine die without even making a mention of
our notice," he complained and demanded that the House be
re-convened to take up the no-trust motion.
"As the Constitutional head of the state, it is the
Governor`s responsibility to set right the wrongs committed by
the government. We wanted him to do that and the Governor
promised to take the necessary required action," the Leader of
Opposition, emerging from the meeting with Governor, told
reporters.
Naidu lambasted the government over the manner in which
the entire proceedings were conducted in the Assembly today.
"Could it (government) not realise that a Supreme Court
judgement of 2006 existed on the voting procedure before
issuing a bulletin related to the election of Speaker and
Deputy Speaker? Why did it have to change the procedure
without consulting the Opposition parties," he asked,
referring to the amendment in the rules of the House ahead of
the crucial voting for the Speaker`s post today.
Mocking YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the
TDP Chief said he wondered where the former ran away when the
opportunity came for him to pull down the government.
"Why did you (Jagan) show mercy on this anti-people
government if you are so concerned about the people," the TDP
president asked.
He raised doubts that the YSR Congress leader may have
struck a deal with Congress bosses in New Delhi to save the
Kiran Kumar government.
People would have trusted Jagan had the MLAs backing him
voted against the Congress candidates in election of the
Speaker and the Deputy Speaker today and pulled down the
government, Naidu said.
"Now, Jagan too lost people`s confidence," he said.
