Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday ordered for a preliminary probe by CBI into allegations of corruption leveled against YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
Based on a petition filed by Textiles Minister P
Shankar Rao over the issue, a division bench comprising Chief
Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar
ordered the investigation agency to submit its report in two
weeks.
The bench after hearing the arguments Reddy`s counsels
said that the material presented by the petitioners was fit
enough for a preliminary inquiry.
Rao, who had filed the petition before becoming a
minister, alleged Reddy amassed huge wealth using his late
father YS Rajasekhara Reddy`s position as chief minister.
The court said it will decide on the issue of a full-
fledged inquiry based on the preliminary report from the CBI.
The inquiry has to be conducted either by CBI director
or an officer nominated by him, the court said.
The minister accused Jagan of amassing public money
during his father`s reign and committed several violations of
laws of the land.
Rao also alleged that the Kadapa MP indulged in money
laundering by floating fictitious firms and routing the black
money through some companies in Mauritius.
Reddy`s counsel earlier argued that the petition filed
by the minster was politically motivated. Rao alleged that
Jagan`s income which was only Rs 11 lakh in 2004, had gone up
to Rs 43,000 crore.
TDP leader K Yerran Naidu and others had also filed
similar petitions seeking CBI probe against Jagan`s wealth.
