Hyderabad: Demanding that Centre make an announcement of formation of Telangana state by June 25, the Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Thursday said the MPs and MLAs of ruling Congress and opposition Telugu Desam Party should resign if this did not happen.

"Common people in Telangana now say that Congress and Telugu Desam MLAs and MPs have to quit their posts. TRS has done its best. They (Cong-TDP legislators) have the responsibility to trigger a Constitutional crisis to achieve separate Telangana," JAC Convener M Kodandaram told reporters here.

If they failed to resign, Telangana supporters should stop co-operating with them, he said.

He was speaking after a meeting of the JAC, attended by TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, representatives of BJP, and others.

A resolution was passed, demanding that a bill for formation of Telangana state be introduced in the next session of Parliament.

Kodandaram announced that a programme called 'Hyderabad cooks on roads' would be held on June 19, in which all the Telangana supporters would be asked to sit on the roads and cook their food.

He called upon people to stop the Congress and TDP MLAs and MPs on their ways, and question them about their commitment for Telangana from June 13 onwards, when they step out for farmers' conventions and visits to schools.

Asked about the reported comments of Union Minister Gulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of Congress affairs in AP, that Telangana issue was "complex and critical", Chandrasekhar Rao said they would make it "critical" now, by intensifying the agitation.

"Many people may describe it as complex and critical. Now, we are intensifying the agitation and making it complex. It was this Gulam Nabi Azad who was instrumental in making the promise for separate Telangana," Rao said.

"Centre should stand by what it announced in Parliament. It should form Telangana as per its word. If the word given in the Parliament is not honoured, then it would be a loss of prestige for the country too," the TRS president said.

The JAC plans to call for a general strike and blockade of railway and roads, he said, adding that dates would be declared later.

The JAC also plans to call for a 'Chalo Hyderabad' (March to Hyderabad) agitation, wherein lakhs of people would lay a siege to the city, Kodandaram said.

He also said the JAC would launch a campaign to highlight the deceitful attitude and the double standard of Telugu Desam on Telangana issue.

The JAC Convener appealed to the people not to cooperate with the Telangana TDP leaders, who are planning to organise a public meeting at Tandur in Ranga Reddy district.

BJP's representative, K Rajeswara Rao, said his party endorsed all the programmes of the JAC.

K Swamy Goud, a leader of Telangana Non-Government Officers Association, said the government employees from Telangana would work whole-heartedly for making the programmes of JAC a success.
