Hyderabad: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy`s resignation from Congress and Lok Sabha membership does not pose any threat to the party-led government in Andhra Pradesh, state Congress president D Srinivas said on Tuesday.
"There is no threat to the government at all. Government will be strong and there is absolutely no problem," he told reporters.
Asked about some Congress MLAs and MLCs meeting Jagan and making critical remarks against the party, he said the actions of all legislators are being watched.
When pointed out that some Congress MLAs and MLCs have visited late YS Rajasekhara Reddy`s samadhi at the Idupulapaya family estate in Kadapa district, where Jagan is currently camping, the PCC president said there was nothing wrong in paying respect to Reddy.
The case of MLA Konda Surekha, a Jagan loyalist who has been making critical comments on the party leaders, is before the high command, he said.
Asked what impact Jagan`s resignation would have on the party, he said: "wait and see".
Srinivas held a meeting with party office bearers and other leaders on Tuesday. The meeting condemned the actions of Jagan`s followers like burning the effigies and posters of Sonia Gandhi at various places in the state.
"The statue of Pandit Nehru was insulted at one place. They are insulting Sonia Gandhiji`s posters. These incidents are horrible and highly condemnable. Jagan made an appeal to his followers not resort to such incidents, but that is not followed on the ground," he said.
The PCC president asked the district functionaries to see that the incidents of burning posters of Sonia Gandhi are prevented.
