Kidnapper arrested in Hyderabad

A youth, who lost over Rs 2.5 lakh in betting in the recently concluded IPL cricket matches and allegedly kidnapped his house owner`s son with an intent to extract ransom to make good the loss was arrested on Saturday.

allegedly kidnapped his house owner`s son with an intent to
extract ransom to make good the loss was arrested on Saturday,
police said.
According to Afzalgunj police, C Praveen Kumar, a private
employee and resident of Osmani Shahi here had lost over Rs
2.5 lakh in betting on the Twenty20 IPL matches. He allegedly
kidnapped a three-and-half-year-old boy Prithviraj Yadav on
May 6 to recover the lost amount.
"Kumar with a view to earn back his lost money decided to
abduct his land lord`s son. While the child was playing near
the house, Kumar kidnapped the child and took him to
Bhuvangiri town in Nalgonda district and kept him in a lodge,"
ACP Sultan Bazar A Narayan told reporters.

After the kid went missing, the child`s father G Ashok
Yadav lodged a complaint with Afzalgunj police even as Kumar
returned to Hyderabad the same night and behaved as if he was
not aware about the developments, the police officer said.

Acting on tip off Kumar was apprehended by Nalgonda
police from the lodge last night while he was planning to call
the child`s parents for ransom, police said adding Kumar has
confessed on abducting the child.

Kumar was arrested on charges of kidnapping and remanded
to judicial custody today while the rescued child was handed
over to his parents.
