Hyderabad: The Left parties do not feel threatened by the reported moves of Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee to emerge as a national leader, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said in Hyderabad on Friday.

"It is not a threat to the Left if somebody wants to become a national leader. If she becomes one, what objection can we have? As far as, we, the Left are concerned, both the CPI and CPI(M) are nationally recognised parties. She is trying to become one. Let her try," he told reporters after the conclusion of the CPI National Council meeting here.

Asked for his comments on the governance of Mamata Banerjee, he pointed out that the coalition partners -- Trinamool Congress and Congress -- are at loggerheads.

"Her government is a coalition government. Trinamool Congress and the Congress. They are fighting each other like cats and dogs. If such a fight goes on, I don't know what sort of government they are going to give in West Bengal," he said.
