Miscreants rob passengers of Vizag-bound train

Unidentified miscreants allegedly robbed two passengers and fled with their gold jewellery and cash in Visakhapatnam-bound train in the wee hours on Sunday, police said.

Vijayawada: Unidentified miscreants allegedly robbed two passengers and fled with their gold jewellery and cash in Visakhapatnam-bound train in the wee hours on Sunday, police said.

While the passengers were asleep in the Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam special train, at around 0100 hrs some miscreants stole their cellphones, Rs 2,000 cash and some gold jewellery, Vijayawada railway police said today.

When the passengers raised an alarm, the robbers pulled the emergency chain and jumped out of the train.

The victims lodged a complaint here, Vijayawada railway police sub-inspector K Chouhan said, adding that thefts were also reported from at least five coaches of the train.

The passengers complained that such incidents frequently occurred between Dornakal and Khammam railway stations on Kazipet-Vijayawada section of South Central Railway.
