Hyderabad: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested on Monday as he staged a sit-in on a road adjacent to the state assembly building demanding that the government immediately help the farmers hit by natural calamities in Andhra Pradesh.
Along with the Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh
Assembly, other TDP MLAs were also arrested and shifted to the Goshamahal police station.
The TDP MLA`s sat on a the dharna in front of the main gate of Public Gardens after leaders of farmers` organisations were prevented from entring the Assembly for submitting a memorandum to the government.
The Assembly could not discuss the farmers` issue despite the subject being listed on top of the agenda as the House was stuck in pandemonium over the lifting of cases against students who took part in the separate Telangana state agitation.
The TDP, Left parties and Praja Rajyam had been demanding that the government immediately discuss the plight of farmers and lend a helping hand as they were the worst hit by a series of calamities this year.
The TDP, in fact, demanded that all crop loans to distressed farmers be waived.
