OU unmoved by JAC`s protest, says no to postponing exams

Unmoved by the demand of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of students for postponing varsity exams to enable them to participate in the `Maha Padyatra` to attend all-Telangana meeting on February 7.

Hyderabad: Unmoved by the demand of the
Joint Action Committee (JAC) of students for postponing
varsity exams to enable them to participate in the `Maha
Padyatra` to attend all-Telangana meeting on February 7 in
Warangal, Osmania University administration today made it
clear that exams would be held as per schedule.

Vice Chancellor (VC) T Tirupati Rao said there was no
question of postponing the exams. "We cannot afford to
postpone the exams as precious time has already been lost. The
teachers and students need to work overtime to complete the
remaining syllabus. Hence, it is not possible to postpone the
exams," he said.

The varsity examinations are scheduled from January 19
and the date clashes with JAC`s `maha padyatra`.

Earlier, hundreds of students staged a protest in front
of varsity administration and VC`s building, demanding
postponement of exams. However, Rao appealed to them to appear
for the examinations and cooperate with the university in its
efforts to save the academic year.

Later, the JAC leaders, who started their `padayatra` in
two groups this evening, gave a call to boycott the exams.

Both the groups comprising about 500 students each would
be covering the northern and southern Telangana districts
during their `padayatra` before reaching Warangal on February
7.

"En route to Warangal, we will educate villagers on the
need for separate statehood to the region. The teams will
reach Kakatiya University in Warangal on February 7 for an
all-Telangana meeting," a JAC leader said.

Osmania University campus turned out to be the
"epicentre" of Telangana movement witnessing a series of
violent protests by students and clashes with the police.

Earlier, in view of these agitations and owing to
security concerns, the administration closed the varsity from
December 26 last year to January 5 and examinations to be
held during this period were also postponed.

The examinations would take place as scheduled from
January 19 onwards and the detailed time-table has been posted
on the university`s website, a senior official of the varsity
said.
