Vijayawada: The ongoing Monsoon Session of
Parliament should pass an effective Lokpal Bill to check
corruption in the country, the Telugu Desam Party said on Thursday.
The ongoing session of Parliament must pass a Bill to
create a strong and effective Lokpal in order to check
corruption, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu said here.
If the current session has no time to discuss the key
issue, a special sitting can be convened to thrash out the
matter on which Gandhian Anna Hazare is on a fast since the
last ten days, the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister said.
He was interacting with students of Siddhardha
Engineering College to create awareness among them about the
anti-graft stir and also to motivate them to fight corruption.
On the occasion, Naidu replied to questions posed by the
students and expressed his views on Lokpal Bill and its
importance in eradicating corruption.
The Leader of Opposition in state Assembly, however,
maintained that setting up of Lokpal and Lokayuktas (in
states) alone will not eradicate graft.
Naidu also agreed to support a political system to
"recall" elected representatives if the people feel he or she
has not acted as per their wishes and turned corrupt.
The court supervision of probe into graft-related cases
reflects failure of the government, he stated.
The Centre should bring back black money stashed away in
foreign banks by Indians and utilise it to fund development
programmes, the TDP leader said.
Naidu voiced his support to Hazare, who is demanding
introduction of a strong Lokpal Bill in Parliament.
