Malappuram: Search operations were conducted in the Munderi forest area of the district in the wake of reports of movement of armed people suspected to be Maoists in a tribal colony, police said Friday.
The local people had complained that six people armed with weapons had came to Chembra adivasi colony last night and distributed leaflets urging people to resort to revolt, police said.
Forest Officials and police had conducted combing operations last night in the Munderi forest area, they said.
In Kannur district, the specially trained commando force of the Kerala Police `Thunderbolt` had conducted search operations in the Aralam and Kannavam forest areas yesterday, following reports of the alleged presence of Maoists in the forest areas bordering Kerala and Karnataka.
The 30-strong commando team along with forest department conducted the search operations.
Last month combing operations were conducted on the Kerala-Karnataka border after reports of suspected presence of the Maoists.
Later two battalions of commandos, one to Wayanad and another to Kannur district, were sent for search operations and police stations on the Kerala-Karnataka border were advised to remain alert.
The commandos had carried out joint operations with forest officals and various branches of police force.
