Hyderabad: Police here today said that they
would investigate the attack on TDP leaders by pro-Telangana
activists at Osmania University.

Speaking to reporters here tonight, Hyderabad City Police
Commissioner B Prasada Rao said they have received a complaint
regarding attack on TDP leaders and its MLAs.
"We have received a complaint from the gunman of Nagam
Janardhan Reddy on the incident. We are going to register a
case and conduct investigations and take action against those
involved in the attack," Prasada Rao said.

Responding to a query, the commissioner said
pro-Telangana activists attacked the TDP leaders, when they
visited the Osmania University campus to meet the agitating
students who are supporting the separate Telanagana movement.

"We realised it (attack on TDP leaders) only after the
incident took place," Prasada Rao said.
The situation at the Osmania University and its
surrounding areas remained tense for the whole day in view of
the bandh call given by TRS and different student
organisations, he said adding, "Barring some violent
incidents, the bandh was by and large peaceful."

To enforce bandh, some activists resorted to violence
by attacking vehicles plying on roads near the campus and
other places of the city and even pelted stones.

They had tried to damage some shops, though several
business establishments and shop owners pulled down their
shutters voluntarily, the Police Commissioner said.

The police took over 200 protesters into preventive
custody, he added.
