Prez polls: Fire at Pranab’s campaign venue

A fire broke out in the stationery room of Jubilee Hall Sunday afternoon shortly after UPA’s Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee left the venue.

Hyderabad: A fire broke out in the stationery room of Jubilee Hall here on Sunday afternoon shortly after UPA’s Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee left the venue.

Mukherjee, who is campaigning ahead of the Presidential polls, was at the Jubilee Hall to attend a meeting of the Legislature Party of the state Congress. Also present on the occasion was Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The fire broke out about 10 minutes after Mukherjee left.

Fire tenders later doused the blaze.
Earlier, a protest by a small group of pro-Telangana supporters had greeted Mukherjee outside the Begumpet airport. Raising slogans of `Jai Telangana`, the protesters tried to stop his convoy but police foiled their attempt.

The protesters belonging to various pro-Telangana groups wanted Mukherjee to spell out his stand on the demand for statehood to Telangana.
