PRP calls off proposed GHMC poll tie-up with Cong
Hyderabad: The Praja Rajyam Party has called
off its proposed electoral alliance with the ruling Congress
party in Andhra Pradesh citing internal differences within the
latter as a stumbling block in their way.
"There will be no alliance with the Congress and we shall
fight the November 23 elections to the Greater Hyderabad
Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on our own," Praja Rajyam Party
Political Affairs Committee (PAC) member C Ramachandraiah told
reporters late tonight.
"We have our strategies in place and we shall proceed
accordingly," he said after the PAC meeting.
He pointed out that it was the Pradesh Congress Committee
president D Srinivas who first announced a tie-up between the
two parties for the GHMC elections. "We are not begging any
party to join hands with us. So, we are not concerned with
what AICC general secretary M Veerappa Moily said about our
proposed alliance," Ramachandraiah remarked.
It may be recalled that the Congress and the PRP sought
to forge an alliance for the GHMC elections. However, the
Congress backed out following a virtual rebellion within the
party over the proposed tie-up with the 15-month-old party.
Veerappa Moily has dubbed the proposed alliance between the
Congress and the PRP as a non-issue.
Meanwhile, the PCC president said the Congress high
command was in full knowledge of things related to the
proposed alliance with actor Chiranjeevi`s party. "The high
command is aware of the efforts to align with the PRP. Chief
Minister K Rosaiah and others also know about the moves,"
Srinivas pointed out.
