Salem`s fake passport case: CBI to produce 4 more witnesses

Hyderabad: A Special Court here today
allowed a petition of CBI to produce four additional witnesses
for their examination against underworld don Abu Salem in a
fake passport case.

The Special CBI court, today recorded the statements
of two officials including a passport official and an expert
of the Government Examiner of Questioned Documents (GEQD).
With this, the court has, so far, recorded the statements of 33
prosecution witnesses and marked 47 documents and posted the
case to June 14.

"The court allowed the petition of the investigating
agency to produce four additional witnesses and the GEQD
official is one among them who today deposed before the court.
Statements of six witnesses including the three additional
witnesses are now pending and the trial in the case is likely
to be completed by the end of this month," CBI counsel B V
Venkatramana said.

Meanwhile, Abu Salem, did not appear before the court.

The trial against the gangster for obtaining a
passport on fictitious name in 2001 from Kurnool district of
Andhra Pradesh began on June 18 last year after CBI filed a
case against Abu Salem and others.
