Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government would
form a committee to formally appoint State DGP Girish Kumar,
following a Central Administrative Tribunal`s (CAT) directive
to constitute a selection committee to appoint a new DGP.
Hyderabad bench of CAT on Thursday set aside the
appointment of Kumar as DGP last year and directed government
to constitute a selection committee to appoint a new DGP
following a petition filed by Kumar`s predecessors in the
tribunal challenging the latter`s selection.
The committee, which will be headed by the Chief
Secretary, will finalise three names and finally and formally
select Girish Kumar, a senior bureaucrat told agency.
According to sources in the Government, new committee
will be formed as per the CAT direction to avoid unnecessary
Following the CAT order, officials in Chief Minister`s
office held discussions with advocate general D V Sitaram
Murthy and decided to follow the due procedure.
According to CAT directive, the selection of DGP should
be completed within two weeks.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah held discussions with the Chief
Secretary S V Prasad, who in turn asked the law department to
finalise the modalities.
