Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh BJP on Satruday demanded
that the Congress government in the state take immediate steps
to mitigate farmers` problems.
Releasing the resolution on agriculture passed at the
state BJP executive meeting here, former union minister
Bandaru Dattatreya alleged that wrong policies of the state
government as well as the Centre had badly hit agriculture
The state government had failed to keep the promise of
uninterrupted power supply of nine hours everyday to farmers,
He demanded that at least seven hours supply should be
ensured to save the crops. Crops on 30 lakh acres in the state
had been damaged due to inadequate rainfall and power cuts, he
Farmers in East Godavari and other districts had to
declare a crop holiday as government failed to provide good
price to the farm produce, he said.
BJP wants the government to pay compensation of Rs 10,000
per acre to the farmers who had declared crop holiday,
Dattatreya said, adding that the state provide fertilisers and
seeds at subsidised rates.
Dattatreya said BJP had set up 15 teams to visit various
areas and study farmers` problems. Senior leader M Venkaiah
Naidu and state unit president G Kishan Reddy would be a part
of these teams.
He also said that the party would be organising a big
rally at Nalgonda which would be addressed by Leader of
Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, on November 5.
