Hyderabad: A TDP legislator who joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) two days ago on Friday resigned from the Assembly, throwing his weight behind the campaign for a separate Telangana state.

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, who represents Banswada constituency in Nizamabad district, submitted his resignation to Deputy Speaker N Manohar.

Accompanied by TRS legislators, Srinivas Reddy paid homage to Telangana martyrs at Gun Park opposite the assembly building before submitting his resignation.

The former minister told reporters that he resigned from the assembly respecting the sentiments of the four crore people of Telangana.

"I don`t want to be remembered by people as a traitor of Telangana. I don`t want to continue in the TDP which promised a separate state during the last elections but has gone back on its word," he said displaying a copy of the party`s election manifesto.

The senior TDP leader broke down while recalling the suicides of 600 people, including students, for a separate state during the past year.

"How many more people have to die before these parties and their leaders agree to formation of Telangana state?" he asked.

He demanded that the central government immediately table a bill in parliament to carve out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh.
