New Delhi: A meeting of the Congress Working
Committee is likely to be held soon against the backdrop of a
number of issues including Telangana.

"A meeting of the CWC is due as the apex policy making
body of the party has not met for some time," a senior party
leader, who declined to be identified, said.
The CWC meet would be the first after the return of party
chief Sonia Gandhi in September after a month-long stay abroad
during which she underwent surgery for an unspecified ailment.

Gandhi has since presided over a meeting of the Central
Election Committee to finalise nominations for the Uttar
Pradesh Assembly elections and has also attended a few
meetings of the Congress Core Group consisting of the party`s
top brass including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Meanwhile, eight Congress members of the Lok Sabha from
Telangana region met Speaker Meira Kumar to press for early
acceptance of their resignations.
Ponnam Prabhakar, one of the MPs, said they wanted the
Speaker to help expedite the process of formation of separate
Telangana or else accept their resignations which had been
given to her on July 4.

The members who met Kumar included M Jagannath, Madhu Goud
Yakshi and Balram Nayak. Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao
accompanied them.
